Obama Has Won Every Debate; But, will it matter?

Okay, Obama and Biden have won every debate hands-down, not even close. McCain and Palin have only excelled in clichés. Unfortunately, clichés are enough for many people. The debates remind me of the wife who finds her husband in bed with another woman and the man says, "What, are you going to believe what I tell ya, or what your eyes see?" Republicans want us to belive what they tell us, not what we know to be true, and what we can check as facts. McCain says something like, Americans are the best workers in the world. What a load of crap. The only question now is, Are Americans going to believe what they can see? Or, are Americans going to believe what the neo-cons tell them to believe?

Remember, September 15, 2008:
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Addressing today’s news of upheaval in America’s financial markets, McCain said this morning that, despite fears over the "turmoil" on Wall Street, “the fundamentals of our economy are strong.”

  1. Yes, not the time to celebrate about the debates since the core of the American democratic infrastructure is suspect. NYT article: States’ Actions to Block Voters Appear Illegal

"States have been trying to follow the Help America Vote Act of 2002 and remove the names of voters who should no longer be listed; but for every voter added to the rolls in the past two months in some states, election officials have removed two, a review of the records shows.

The six swing states seem to be in violation of federal law in two ways. Michigan and Colorado are removing voters from the rolls within 90 days of a federal election, which is not allowed except when voters die, notify the authorities that they have moved out of state, or have been declared unfit to vote.

Indiana, Nevada, North Carolina and Ohio seem to be improperly using Social Security data to verify registration applications for new voters.

In addition to the six swing states, three more states appear to be violating federal law. Alabama and Georgia seem to be improperly using Social Security information to screen registration applications from new voters. And Louisiana appears to have removed thousands of voters after the federal deadline for taking such action.

Under federal law, election officials are supposed to use the Social Security database to check a registration application only as a last resort, if no record of the applicant is found on state databases, like those for driver’s licenses or identification cards.

The requirement exists because using the federal database is less reliable than the state lists, and is more likely to incorrectly flag applications as invalid. Many state officials seem to be using the Social Security lists first."

  2. Check out this CNN video forwarded to me by a co-worker: Parking Lot Politics

I’d laugh if it weren't so sad. Imagine that stuff like this still happens in North Carolina. Reeks of “back of the bus” politics. The guy even said he's offended by Obama running for president. What the hell is he so offended about? Of course, he doesn't get to clarify that, but there’s really no need for him to clarify it, is there? Before you say this is a knee-jerk accusation of racism, it doesn't even have to be about racism. It's ironic that the sign itself, claimed as free speech, speaks volumes about the Republican supporters' level of intolerance, bias and prejudice, regardless of race, and has nothing to do with freedom.

I'm sorry to say that the race will be a lot closer than it appears in the polls now, especially the way voter registrations and rolls are being slashed. They may steal another election yet, spun as another comeback victory for McCain. At that point, democracy in America is done and gone.
